Julie scoped out beds for Benton when it was time for him to move from his
toddler bed into a "big boy bed," and what she liked the most was a
raised bed with a slide. and a curtained playing area underneath it. We fairly
shamelessly stole the design from a bed that was available commercially. I did
the woodwork; Julie did the sewing. The bed is constructed out of pine (except
the slide, which is melamine), with a water-based polyurethane finish (no
stain). It comes apart fairly easily -- the rails are mortised-and-tenoned with
countersunk bolts going through the posts and into the tenons (the tenons have
metal anchors sunk into them).
