This was a fun little experiment with hardboard, paint, monofilament, and
a scroll saw. We have some good friends -- both who grew up in Texas and
both who graduated from The University of Texas at Austin -- who moved
to...New York City. The horror!
When their daughter was born, we smelled an opportunity to send a little
bit of Texas to the Big Apple. It took us a while to get around to it, but
Tim cut out a variety of Texas-related shapes, and Julie then painted them
burnt orange and white. The final result was...heavy. But it looked pretty
nifty.
The symbols we included were:
- Texas Ranger badge (top of the mobile, as well as one of the pendants)
- The Alamo
- An armadillo
- A Texas longhorn head
- The University of Texas tower
- An outline of the state of Texas
