Texas Mobile -- January 2004

This was a fun little experiment with hardboard, paint, monofilament, and a scroll saw. We have some good friends -- both who grew up in Texas and both who graduated from The University of Texas at Austin -- who moved to...New York City. The horror!

When their daughter was born, we smelled an opportunity to send a little bit of Texas to the Big Apple. It took us a while to get around to it, but Tim cut out a variety of Texas-related shapes, and Julie then painted them burnt orange and white. The final result was...heavy. But it looked pretty nifty.

The symbols we included were:

  • Texas Ranger badge (top of the mobile, as well as one of the pendants)
  • The Alamo
  • An armadillo
  • A Texas longhorn head
  • The University of Texas tower
  • An outline of the state of Texas
