Superheros, Sons and Their Mothers

Spiderman saving the citizens with Superman\'s help

Tonight it finally arrived! The Superheros, Sons and Their Mothers event at the Dublin Recreation Center was originally scheduled for March, but got snowed out and rescheduled for tonight. Carson (a.k.a. Spiderman) and I had a dinner date. We arrived about 10 minutes early and had to stay in the car until Carson saw a few other costumer-clad children go in. He did not want to be the only one in costume. Not only was he not the only one, but he was not the only Spiderman, as you will see in the pictures.

The event included 30+ mothers and their sons enjoying dinner, games, balloon sculptures, crafts, and a hunt for villains around the rec center. Once the MC started the event and we had gotten food, Carson spotted a chase (a.k.a. a group of similarly clad 4 to 7 year olds running, rolling, and superhero fighting). Once my Spiderman saw the action go down, he was off. He spent a large part of the next 2 hours running in a pack with his like-minded peers.

Count them – yes 5 Spidermen, 4 Batmen, 1 Power Ranger, and another guy. This picture is missing about 10 other Spidermen, the dominant superhero at the event, followed closely by Batmen. Carson is the taller one facing toward the left, roughly in the center. The Power Ranger on the far left is Tommy, a classmate of Carson’s. The rest of the kids at the event, we did not know, but it is surprising how quickly superheros befriend other superheros.

For one brief period, Carson took a break from the chase to complete a maze and a rocket craft, made from a toilet paper roll.

Then at 8:00 pm, we split into teams to head out and subdue a villain in the Rec Center. Our group captured Water Woman, a villain who likes to take towels, splash people and cause problems in the pool. The superheros were able to subdue her by blowing on her with their super-drying, superhero breath. We then took her back to the main room, where Carson used his web-shooting powers to help keep the Darkness Villain subdued. She liked to menace people at the rec center by turning out the lights, so Carson was making sure she did not get away.

One Happy Guy!

As you can see, I had one mighty happy superhero when it was all over. It was a pretty special date for me with a very special, super-guy!
