How the Times They Are a’ Changin’

Date December 30, 2008

Carson’s first grade teacher sent out a note last night inviting parents to sign up on a private wiki she’d set up that she will be using as one of the tools for exploring technology with her students in the second half of the year. In passing, she mentioned her blog.

That’s right. Carson’s teacher is an active blogger! Her blog is a mix of mother/family observations and anecdotes as well as first-grade-teacher musings.

Which reminds me…I never sent her the link to a really interesting article by Malcolm Gladwell in The New Yorker a few weeks back. To add to the randomness of this entry, the article is “Most Likely to Succeed” and centers around the challenges of identifying, hiring, and compensating teachers effectively in the American public education system. In my mind, it adds further support to the approach that Matthew Miller proposed for fixing public education several years ago in The 2% Solution. Both are interesting reads.
