How to Give a 12-Year-Old Boy a Good Night’s Sleep

Date May 22, 2011

Saturday, May 21, 2011. 9:00 AM — Benton’s first soccer game of the end-of-season tournament Sanga (Benton’s team) wins…although the camera caught Benton getting burned by an opposing player right in front of the parents’ sideline (for which he received some lighthearted ribbing…and proceeded to almost get the giggles on field): 10:30 AM — Benton’s […]

A Ballet Lesson from Alana

Date May 10, 2011

On Saturday, Julie and I decide to go for a walk, which, by the end of it, included Julie, Carson, Alana, me, one of the boys from next door, another boy from a few houses farther down, and an entire 4-person family (our unofficial skiing companions) we managed to pick up en route from the […]

Mother’s Day 2011 in Review

Date May 9, 2011

Three kids, all caught on (digital) film. Alana Saturday afternoon: wraps Mother’s Day presents. Saturday night: “Dad, wake me up early in the morning so we can go downstairs and make mom breakfast in bed! We’re going to make her pancakes because I know how to make them!” Saturday morning, a good 45 minutes before […]

Carson: Flag Football Maniac

Date April 10, 2011

Yesterday was the start of soccer season for Alana and Benton. Today was Carson’s first flag football game. First Soccer Games of the Year

Date April 9, 2011

Somehow, we managed to have each of our three kids playing two sports apiece this spring — 2 soccers, 3 baseballs, 1 flag football. Today was the start of the soccer season. What a difference a season makes. Alana largely just “chased the action” in the fall, but she actually got in and played in […]

2011 Spring Break Part 3: Niagara Falls

Date March 29, 2011

The last leg of our trip was to Niagara Falls — the Canada side. Julie, who manages to plan these sorts of things perfectly, landed us a room at the Embassy Suites with quite a view: I couldn’t resist seeing if I could get decent pictures at night… …and as the sun came up: Not […]

2011 Spring Break Part 2: Skiing in Ellicottville, New York

Date March 28, 2011

Thanks to a Christmas gift of weekly skiing passes at a couple of mounds near to Columbus, all three of our kids have become pretty competent skiers. Benton quickly got hooked on snowboarding and hasn’t looked back. Carson bounces back and forth between skiing and snowboarding, but looks like he’s leaning towards the latter. We […]

Is This Thing Still On?

Date March 20, 2011

Abruptly and unexpectedly, we sorta’ stopped posting since, er, January. That was driven by a mix of things, all of which come down to, “Not enough hours in the day…” I have been keeping up with my professional blog, which is good for what it does, but not of interest to most people reading this […]
