Yesterday was the start of soccer season for Alana and Benton. Today was Carson’s first flag football game. He’s never played organized football (not counting the organized soccer he played, if you want to get all non-American on me). He has now dubbed the sport his favorite. Alana had a good time, too:

2011 Spring Break Part 3: Niagara Falls
March 29, 2011
The last leg of our trip was to Niagara Falls — the Canada side. Julie, who manages to plan these sorts of things perfectly, landed us a room at the Embassy Suites with quite a view: I couldn’t resist seeing if I could get decent pictures at night… …and as the sun came up: Not […]
2011 Spring Break Part 2: Skiing in Ellicottville, New York
March 28, 2011
Thanks to a Christmas gift of weekly skiing passes at a couple of mounds near to Columbus, all three of our kids have become pretty competent skiers. Benton quickly got hooked on snowboarding and hasn’t looked back. Carson bounces back and forth between skiing and snowboarding, but looks like he’s leaning towards the latter. We […]
Spring Football — Springburn-Style
March 26, 2011
We had a warm weekend afternoon a couple of weeks ago, and most of the neighborhood boys found their way to the cul de sac for some spontaneous throwing, catching, and punting drills: Austin Alex Andrew Carson
Is This Thing Still On?
March 20, 2011
Abruptly and unexpectedly, we sorta’ stopped posting since, er, January. That was driven by a mix of things, all of which come down to, “Not enough hours in the day…” I have been keeping up with my professional blog, which is good for what it does, but not of interest to most people reading this […]
Back to the Slopes
January 9, 2011
Hmmm… weekly passes means there’s a risk that there will be a weekly post on this subject. Maybe not. We’ll see. The thermometer read “7 degrees” this morning when we got up, but the temperature was supposed to get up into the high 20s. As it turned out, it was a cloudless, windless day, so […]
Backyard Bird Photography
January 8, 2011
My parents got Carson a deluxe backyard birdfeeder a couple of years ago, and we’ve enjoyed watching the variety of species that it draws. Every so often, I set up my tripod and a really long remote shutter release cable I fashioned using a 50′ length of telephone cable and then sit back and snap […]
A Bucket of Balls Plus Uncarpeted Stairs
January 5, 2011
Benton and Carson got a metal tin of assorted rubber balls for Christmas as quasi-hand-me-downs from their cousins. Somebody (I’m pretty sure it was Julie) suggested that it would be cool to dump them down the stairs. Earlier this week, Carson had a friend over (that’s his friend at the top of the stairs — […]
Fooling Around on the Scioto River
January 1, 2011
We live 5 minutes from the Scioto (SIGH-oh-toe) River, which runs pretty much on a direct line to downtown Columbus. Back in September, Carson and I found a little trail tucked away off of a road that parallels the river and did some exploring: Benton, Carson, and I returned to the same spot shortly after […]
